Droplet monitors your home for unusual or potentially damaging water activity. You can customize how sensitive Droplet is when determining what counts as an alert-worthy event—whether it's a slow drip or a sudden pipe burst.

These settings are available in the Alert Sensitivity and Alert Frequency menus of the Droplet app.

🚨 Types of Leak Alerts

Droplet detects and labels "active" events based on how long and how much water is flowing. There are two types:

1. High Water Usage

Triggered when:

  • Water runs continuously at a high flow rate

  • Total water volume exceeds typical usage patterns

🛠️ Example: A pipe burst, an outdoor hose left on, or a long shower

2. Unusual Water Event

Triggered when:

  • Water runs at a lower or moderate flow rate

  • Duration or pattern is unexpected

🛠️ Example: A slow leak, a continuously running toilet, or a sink that is left dripping

⚙️ Customizing Alert Sensitivity

You can fine-tune when Droplet sends these alerts by adjusting two sliders:

  • Duration Threshold: “Notify me if water is running for over…”

  • Flow Rate Threshold: “And continuously exceeds…”

For example, you might be notified if water is running for 30 minutes at a flow rate of 0.03 gallons per minute—ideal for catching slow, hidden leaks.

⚠️ Manually adjusting these settings can lead to too many or too few alerts. If needed, use “Reset to Default” to restore the recommended balance.

📍 Where to Find and Adjust Alert Sensitivity

To change when Droplet triggers a leak alert:

  1. Open the Droplet app

  2. Tap Menu (bottom right)

  3. Go to Notification Preferences

  4. Tap Set Alert Sensitivity

  5. Adjust the flow rate and duration sliders to your preferred thresholds

⏱️ Where to Set Alert Frequency (How Often You’re Notified)

Once an alert is active, you can control how often you receive updates until the event stops.

To change this:

  1. Open the Droplet app

  2. Tap Menu

  3. Go to Notification Preferences

  4. Tap Set Alert Frequency

  5. Choose your preferred interval (e.g. every 20 minutes)

💡 Pro Tips

  • If you're getting too many alerts, increase the flow rate threshold slightly or extend the time window

  • If you're missing slow leaks, lower the flow rate threshold to 0.03–0.05 GPM

  • Tag events and confirm leaks to help Droplet improve over time

  • You can always hit “Reset to Default” to return to the recommended setup
