Live and Retroactive Fixture Tagging

In the app, Droplet will automatically detect water events and assign it to a water fixture (faucet, shower, toilet, etc). Users can now tag fixtures in real time with live tagging, or up to two days after they occur.

How Droplet's Automatic Tagging Works:

  1. Droplet will detect a water event in real time, and after the water stops flowing, will assign it to a fixture automatically. Currently, Droplet can automatically detect your faucet, shower, or toilet, irrigation system, dishwasher, bathtub, washing machine, and outside faucet (you can add your own custom fixtures as well.)

  2. This automatic breakdown can be seen in the Where is My Water Going? section of the Usage dashboard.

Live Tagging:

Our live tagging feature allows you to tag specific fixtures while they’re running, and view them on the Fixture Breakdown section of your Usage page.

What is the Difference between Automatic Tagging and Live Tagging?

If you want to tag a fixture other than Droplet's automatic selections, it requires you to live-tag it. This can be done while this fixture is using water. In order for your live tag to appear in the Fixture Breakdown, the water usage needs to fully end in order to capture the full amount of water used. Because of this, you won't see your live tag apply right away; once your water usage ends, your tag will show up in the Fixture Breakdown.

💡Note: In order for your custom tag to save successfully, Droplet needs to fully detect the full water event, so if Droplet doesn't detect an end to the water usage, your tag won't save. You'll need to tag your custom fixture when it's used next.

How To Live Tag Your Fixtures:

  1. Make sure your desired fixture is running

  2. Click into the Now view in the Droplet app, where you can view the live water usage.

  3. While the water is still running, go to the "Tag Running Fixtures" tab and select the correct fixture from your customized options.

  4. Click "Tag the Running Fixture".

  5. After your desired fixture stops running, your live tag will save and appear in the Fixture Breakdown.

For fixtures that run using cycles of water, like dishwashers or washing machines, you’ll only be able to see its water usage while they’re filling with water, not during the entire load. You can, however, tag the water flow at any time up to two days after it occurs.

Retroactive Tagging:

With the release of 3.4.0 (June 2026), clicking the Daily View bar or Tag Event tab will bring you to the fixture detection historical list. You'll be able to see all detected water events listed in chronological order, along with a graph of its flow. Users are able to edit the fixture tag up to 2 calendar days after it occurs.

How to Edit a Fixture Tag:

  1. Navigate to your water events via the Usage or Tag Events tab

  2. Scroll to the water event you want to edit and click the pencil icon

  3. Select the fixture you want to assign from the dropdown Fixtures & Appliances list.

💡 This is just the beginning for fixture tagging—we’re planning more features in future releases to improve this experience even more!
