Tagging water events helps Droplet learn your householdās specific water usage patterns. While not required, tagging is a powerful way to improve detection accuracy over timeāfor you and for all Droplet users.
š§ Why Tagging Helps
When you tag a fixtureālike a shower, faucet, or toiletāyouāre telling Droplet, āThis is what this type of water use looks like.ā That feedback helps train our detection algorithms to:
Identify events more accurately
Reduce false alerts (like āunusual water usageā)
Improve long-term performance across all homes
š You donāt have to tag every event. Even tagging each fixture just twice makes a meaningful impact.
š Confirming Leaks Helps Too
If you see a notification or water event that you know is a leak, be sure to tap āItās a leak!ā in the app. This helps us:
Differentiate between real leaks and harmless activity
Refine the algorithm that powers leak alerts
Improve how Droplet alerts users in similar homes
The more confirmed leaks we receive, the better our system becomes at detecting and classifying them for everyone.
š·ļø Rename Your Fixtures for Better Tagging
If you have multiple similar fixtures (e.g. multiple sinks or outdoor spigots), you can give them custom names to make tagging easier and more specific.
To rename fixtures:
Go to the Droplet app
Tap Menu > Home Info > Fixture
Select a fixture and rename it (e.g. "Kitchen Faucet" or "Guest Bathroom Shower")
This helps both you and Droplet better understand which fixture was in useāand improves the value of tagging.
š” Do I Have to Tag Water Events?
NoāDroplet works even without tagging. But if youād like to help fine-tune your deviceās accuracy (and support future features), tagging helps a lot.
It wonāt immediately change how events show up in your dashboard, but it helps Droplet learn in the background.
āļø How to Tag an Event
You can tag a water event while itās happeningāhereās how:
Droplet will detect a water event in real time and assign it to a fixture automatically (usually a faucet or shower).
While the water is still running, click the Tag Running Fixtures button and select the correct fixture from your customized options.
Click Tag Fixture.
š Tip: Tag the event before it ends, not after. Droplet uses live flow data to match tagging feedback to the water pattern.
Keep in mind that for fixtures that run using cycles of water, like dishwashers or washing machines, youāll only be able to tag them while theyāre filling with water, not during the entire load.
ā±ļø Where to Tag an Event
Open the Droplet app
Tap Tag Event
See the options to Tag a Fixture, tag It's a leak! or Edit & Label Fixtures
This is just the beginning for fixture taggingāweāre planning more features in future releases, including retroactive tagging, to improve this experience even more.
