Before installing Droplet, it’s important to make sure your plumbing setup is compatible. This article covers the types of pipes that work with Droplet, how much space you’ll need, and the best place to install the device for reliable performance.
🧵 What Kind of Pipes Are Compatible?
Droplet works with a wide range of standard residential plumbing materials, including:
PEX
PE (Polyethylene)
ABS
CPVC (Schedule 40 & 80)
PVC
Brass
Copper (Types L & M)
Supported pipe sizes:
Nominal sizes from ½" to 1½", with outer diameters between ~0.625" and 2"
💡 Not sure what type of pipe you have? Just send us a photo of your installation area — we’ll gladly confirm compatibility before you begin.
📏 How Much Space Is Required?
For the ultrasonic sensors to function properly, Droplet needs:
At least 4 inches of straight, clean pipe on either side of the device
A location that’s free from nearby 90° bends, shutoff valves, or tees
A smooth pipe surface (sanding off paint or debris helps)
Droplet may still work in tighter spaces, but placing it too close to a bend or valve can reduce accuracy. Always install on the straightest, cleanest section of pipe available.
📍 Where’s the Best Place to Install Droplet?
The ideal installation location is:
On your main water line
Before any split to outdoor lines, water heaters, or irrigation systems
As close as possible to your main shutoff valve
In a utility area like a basement, garage, crawlspace, or utility closet
Before installing:
Clean the pipe surface thoroughly
Avoid mounting over textured pipe sections, couplings, or uneven joints
