If your Droplet is blinking orange, it means the device is having trouble detecting your pipe. This is part of the initial pipe detection step, and it's usually easy to resolve with a few quick adjustments.

βœ… Quick Fix Checklist

Before anything else, check the following:

🧼 Clean Pipe Surface

Make sure the pipe is:

  • Free of paint, corrosion, insulation, or stickers

  • Smooth and shiny β€” use sandpaper or a Scotch-Brite pad if needed

  • Not wrapped or textured beneath the sensor

πŸ“ Pipe Placement

  • You need at least 4 inches (10 cm) of straight pipe on either side of the device

  • Avoid placing Droplet directly next to:

    • 90Β° bends or elbows

    • Valves

    • T-junctions or couplings

These can interfere with ultrasonic signal detection.

πŸ”§ Clamp Pressure

  • The blue knob should be snug, but not over-tight

  • Droplet must sit flush and level on the pipe β€” not tilted or twisted

πŸ”Œ Power & Wi-Fi

  • Make sure Droplet is plugged into power using the included USB-C cable (extension cords are fine)

  • Confirm a stable 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi connection (no 5 GHz-only networks)

  • At least 1–2 bars of signal strength are recommended at the install location

πŸ“Έ Still Seeing an Orange Light? Do This:

If you've checked everything and the light is still orange:

1. πŸ“· Send Us a Photo (Optional but helps a lot)

  • Take a clear photo of your Droplet on the pipe β€” we can spot issues quickly by looking at the positioning and install area.

2. πŸ“§ Share Your Droplet Email

  • This helps us locate your device for remote diagnostics.
Find it in the app under: Menu > Account

3. πŸ”Œ Leave Droplet Plugged In

  • If you’d like us to take a remote look, please leave the device powered on and connected to Wi-Fi.

ℹ️ Why This Happens

Droplet uses ultrasonic sensing to measure flow through the pipe. This requires:

  • Clean, consistent contact

  • Adequate space around the sensor

  • Smooth signal travel through the pipe wall

Anything that disrupts this (like nearby joints or rough surfaces) can prevent proper calibration and cause the orange light to persist.

πŸ’‘ Pro Tip: Try a Temporary Spot

If your preferred install location is tricky, try clamping Droplet to another clean, straight pipe section for initial setup. Once calibration is complete, you can move it back β€” and we can remotely recalibrate it for the final location.
